Investment Dictionary - Variable annuity
A variable annuity works the same was as does a fixed annuity, except that its value and payout amount varies in value according to the performance of a portfolio of mutual funds from which the contract-holder can select. Typically these policies offer a stock fund, a bond fund, and a money-market fund.
