Investment Dictionary - Split
The division of a corporation's stock into a greater number of shares. The split may be made in any multiple: two for one, three for one, and so on. A reverse split would be one for three, and so on. Essentially, a firm splits its stock to reduce the market price and thus make the shares more attractive to a larger pool of investors.
