Investment Dictionary - Load
A sales charge on each share or unit of a mutual fund. It covers the sales commissions paid to the broker or distribution company plus other administration and selling expenses. The load may range from 1% to 9% and may occur at the front or end of a transaction. There are also "no-load" funds which do not have a charge on each share.
