Investment Dictionary - Bara Indices
The Barra Indices divide the three major S & P indices (400 for mid-cap, 500 for large-cap, and 600 for small-cap) into growth and value categories. The top 50% of stocks as ranked by book-to-market value are considered value stocks and the bottom 50% are considered growth stocks. This creates both value and growth indices for all three S & P indices.
