Investment Dictionary - Bank rate
The minimum rate at which the Bank of Canada makes short-term advances or loans to the chartered banks and other deposit-taking institutions. Since 1980 the bank rate has been set at one quarter of one percent or 25 basis points above the weekly average tender rate of a 90 day treasury bill or t-bill.
